With the common epidemic of obesity in recent times, a low calorie and enjoyable alternative is certainly needed. An overabundance of fried foods, sugars and soft drinks has our waist lines expanding faster than we can keep notice. We need to discover foods that are delicious and filling, yet low in calories and good for our metabolism and fat burning. Nothing can describe this better than tandoori chicken.

Tandoori chicken is cooked at high temperatures in a tandoor oven. Tandoor ovens are made of clay and can cook with extreme heats up to 900 degrees F. The tandoor oven produces a very unique and special flavor, which is attributed to the juices of the chicken dropping down on the hot coals. This creates a delicious flavored smoke that will make your taste buds very happy. Tandoori food is often considered the culinary pride of the Indian people and the reasons for this are obvious. It is truly delicious!

You can prepare tandoori chicken for a dinner party or just a snack. Tandoori chicken is fat burning food that will get your metabolism working in high gear. It is a truly delicious food you can incorporate into any diet or weight loss program, and once you start losing weight while enjoying this amazing food you might just get addicted! It is a great feeling to enjoy spicy and succulent food and taking pride in knowing you will be able to lose weight.

Tandoori chicken should be marinated overnight, so you can begin preparation the day before. Mix yogurt and tandoori spices in a large bowl. Stir together 1 cup of yogurt and tandoori masala spices. This spicy marinade will make the tandoori chicken hot and bursting with flavor. In India you would need a glass of water close by, but in Western places like the United States and Canada a more mild form of the marinade is more commonly applied.

Once your marinade is ready, you will need to rinse and clean your chicken pieces. Fork the chicken pieces as this will help the marinade absorb into the chicken. Place in the ziplock bag, and pour in the marinade. Ideally, you will want to let the chicken marinade overnight, but letting it sit for 4 hours should produce a delicious flavor in your tandoori chicken. The chicken only gets better if it has the opportunity to marinate overnight. Cover the bowl you use with plastic wrap or aluminum foil before placing in the refrigerator.

It is recommended to make large portions of tandoori chicken so you have left overs you can make more delicious meals out of. There are so many possibilities for healthy and hearty snacks like tandoori chicken soup, sandwiches with whole grain bread and veggies, or you could simply serve the spicy and succulent chicken over whole grain rice. These healthy and filling snacks can be the cornerstone of your weight loss program!

When cooking tandoori chicken it is best to use a clay tandoor oven. If you want to use authentic tandoor ovens, check out Ron Levy’s website. He makes authentic tandoori ovens that will make delicious tandoori chicken.
