Using Coconut As A Profoundly Healthy Fat

Posted by Rose Robertson on Monday, 8 March, 2010

The coconut is a beautiful gift to the peoples of the world. The Sanskrit language calls the coconut palm ‘kalpa vriksah,’ meaning that it is a plant which gives everything one needs to survive. The coconut is an old tree and a distant relative of grasses, and its meat, water and oil have been used for nutrition and health by many cultures. In India in particular, the coconut has been used extensively in Ayurvedic medicine, a system which has inspired aromatherapists, nutritionists and naturopaths the world over.

Taking approximately nine months to filter each liter of water in its shell, the coconut makes an amazing natural water filter. The water is drawn up through micro-fibers which purify it before it ends in the actual nut of the coconut. This clear life-giving coconut water isone of the highest sources of electrolytes found in all of nature. Coconut water is a wonderful re-hydrator and makes an excellent sports drink. When we consume a drink consisting of 55% fresh coconut water and 45% fresh green-leaf juice, or blue-green algaes, we give ourselves an instantaneous infusion of life energy.

In the inquiry on healthy versus unhealthy fats, coconut oil tips the scales in terms of its nutritional value. While it is a saturated fat, not all saturated fats are harmful for us. Coconut oil is cholesterol-free and does not change into a trans-fat, which means it can be used at high heat. It has also been shown that coconut oil is more powerful than olive oil in controlling cholesterol. Also, because it is a medium-chain fatty acid, it is easier for the body to digest, meaning the fat can be used more readily as fuel.

Coconut oil is one of nature’s most versatile and health-enhancing fats. Studies show that coconut oil supports the health of the thyroid gland, which regulates thenecessary anti-aging steroids progesterone, DHEA and pregnenolone. These steroids are required to help prevent heart disease, senility, obesity, cancer and other degenerative diseases associated with aging. Coconut oil also contains capryllic acid as well as lauric acid, both of which are anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-microbial. It has long been known that caprilyc acid is the most potent yeast-fighting substance, making it an excellent choice for those working with releasing candida and other inner ecology imbalances. Transitioning to coconut oil as one’s fat source also helps to normalize blood sugar levels while increasing energy, building a healthy immune and nervous system and reducing the overall stress on one’s body. It is necessary to note that a ‘therapeutic dose’ of coconut oil consists of daily doses of two to three (or more) tablespoons for an adult.

Cooking with coconut oil is a delightful way to introduce this supplement into your life. Try using it instead of margarine, butter or other vegetable oils. Also, consider using fresh coconuts that are not too old (i.e., forgo the coconut shavings and buy a whole coconut instead). The flesh is primarily fat, and it can be chopped and eaten with fruit for a delectable treat. Coconut oil is also great as an oil for veggies, tossed into your morning smoothie or slathered on bread with spices or preserves. If you’re looking for a way to enhance oats or rice, coconut oil adds a special note to a normally humble dish.

Repairing and nourishing to the skin, coconut oil has been used for thousands of years as a skin moisturizer because it is ideal for all skins types, including dry, rough and wrinkled skin. Aromatherapy uses two types of coconut oil: fractionated and virgin. Virgin coconut oil is solid at room temperature and blends well with essential oils for a thick, nourishing body oil, which does not leave a greasy feel. The same oil that is used in cooking can be used in body care products. Fractionated coconut is a liquid oil that is made when the coconut molecule is cut to a smaller size. This process does not deplete the oil’s healthy qualities, but instead allows us to use coconut oil in a liquid state – an excellent quality in massage applications. Also, fractionated coconut absorbs quickly, does not have a coconut odor and has an extremely long shelf life, all pluses in many situations. Coconut is also blended with other carrier oils, such as jojoba, to create a luscious cream base. Creating your own body care items with coconut oil and essential oils is a lovely, and easy, way to enhance your personal health.

One more thing about the fabulous coconut: this oil is great for use in sexual play. Both the taste and smell of coconut add to the delights of intercourse. A great way to experience coconut is by mixing it with vanilla and cacao oils. Smooth this concoction over your lover’s skin and enjoy.

If you’re searching for a multi-use, healthy oil, search no further than the coconut. Whether you use it in skin blends, salads or massage creams, the coconut is an all-around excellent choice as both a carrier and edible oil. It takes essential oils beautifully and will not leave your skin feeling heavy or greasy. Use it in its many forms and see how this unique plant continues to benefit us in our day to day lives.

Show The Kids Where To Find Online Coupons

Posted by Lucy Jackson on Sunday, 13 December, 2009

Long gone are the days where we had to wait patiently for the Sunday paper in order to find the coupons! Even though there are still plenty of coupons in newspapers – and junk mail and other print media – there are plenty of options as to where to find online coupons as well.

Once companies realized that the Internet would become a way of living, they started putting coupons all over the place. Large and small companies alike will put coupons on their websites – sometimes these are duplicates of ones we have seen in print, and other times these are unique only to their website.

Finding online coupons is easy. However, some of the sites that the search engines direct you to are nothing more than single pages with a bunch of links sending you elsewhere. The verdict is out as to how useful this type of portal page is. You might have better luck going directly to the individual stores you are interested in shopping at.

When you do find coupons, however, make certain you can use them where you want to. Some coupons found online can only be used online – you can’t print them and use them in the store.

It depends, too, on what type of coupons you are looking for online. If you are searching for coupons to use for perhaps some takeout on the way home from work, you might have better luck searching on each website/restaurant you are interested in. Pizza places, chicken, Chinese… They’re all online. Many are using new technology so that you can even place your order online and use the coupons you just found at the same time!

Of course, keep in mind that “coupons” can mean many things online. Sometimes you won’t actually be presented with a coupon, but you will see a host of incredibly attractive deals and sales. And if you have the opportunity to save, who cares how you do it?

One store had an incredible $5 coupon not long ago, and people figured out quickly that this coupon could be printed and used multiple times for the three months it was good. Finding these deals is a truly great find.

A simple online search at any of the large search engines will bring you to many sites where you can find coupons, coupon codes, and special deals galore.

Whether it’s Acrobat, Photoshop or Elements, Adobe promo code will help you save some money.

Money Tips for Dishes

Posted by Jessica Hayton on Friday, 20 November, 2009

If you ever want to move out of the house, you will need to buy dishes eventually. Check out this post if you are looking to not spend a bundle on something that you almost have to buy.

Getting dishes from the salvage store is a great way to save some money and not having to sacrifice. With dishes washed pretty much every time they are used, buying them anywhere will look like new.

Never buy dishes from stores that specialize in dishes. Go to those hardware stores that almost never have any selection because when they need to clear out the stale inventory, you get crazy savings.

You can often make your own dishes with ceramic at a cheap price. Those that have the time can just go to those classes and try to make a beautiful dish that you can call your own.

When it comes to older and often more durable china, porcelain or glassware, a yard sale or flea market can be a great place for bargains. Often electrical frying pans, toasters, irons and the like can be found at very reasonable prices at these venues.

One warning though. Never buy dishes with cracks obviously so check diligently to see if there are any chips. One small imperfection can lead to a broken dish very quickly.

Those that don’t have much money should just buy the biggest dish and save themselves storage space as well as money. You can always use a bigger dish in place of a small one.

Unless you have a house with ten people, don’t go to warehouses like Costco or Sam’s Club because the dishes are sold in bulk. It’s not like you ever have to use all 15 dishes in that package anyway.

Some scratches and chips are impossible to see with the naked eye. Once you’ve looked them over, rub your finger against the mouth and bottom of the dish or glass.

Thrift shops that sell clothing and everyday household products are actually a great place to get dishes because no one ever expects to find them there.

Use the Overstock coupon to get yourself some free savings for everyone’s gifts this holiday season.

Jewelry is very desirable but they are so expensive. That’s why this page is so valuable for those who are looking for a few tips in saving money on those bling.

Online auctions are a great place to begin. At least if you don’t find the piece you want or it is out of your price range, you will get an idea of how much the going price is.

Don’t forget about pawn shops. These shops generally ask for the value of the material in the product without a stiff markup. Remember that generally the markup on jewelry can be as high as 500 percent.

Some of your friends will know where to buy jewelry so talk to everyone you know if you want some savings! They might even be friends with some stores so they will give you discounts and great service.

Jewelry needs to be cleaned, adjusted like a car so consider the stores that will give you free services for life. Even if the price tag is higher, they might work out to be cheaper in the long run.

You can get great deals on jewelry at flea markets or yard sales. Verify that you are getting the genuine article and not some concoction of base metals and glass.

Craft fairs are another good place to look for bargains. Usually you are dealing one on one with the jewelry maker and can bargain with them. These people know their product and are usually very honest.

Jewelry merchants who rely on advertising are usually the ones that make high margins. Those who are low key will have good quality, cheap prices and awesome service, which is what you need.

Don’t ever walk into a jewelry store inside a mall. The rent is so expensive and they always transfer the cost to the customers. Shopping channels on TV is the same thing. Stay away.

There’s pure gold and there’s some other type of gold. Not every one is the same so make sure you know the difference before you commit to the price as cost will vary significantly.
